Read everything you can get your hands on. There are ideas you can apply everywhere!
What is the thing you like the most about creating kids' books?
Having such an appreciative audience
How do you research your writing?
I use the Internet and libraries, but the greatest source of material and ideas are the people I meet.
Where do you get your ideas?
My own kids inspire a lot of my ideas.
What's your greatest childhood memory?
It's hard to pinpoint one thing --- learning to ride a two-wheeler, stopping for ice cream on summer Sunday drives, playing with my cousins on my farm, curled up on my mom's lap for stories, playing in the yard with my dog ...
When you were little what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be lots of different things --- hairdresser, nurse, undercover police detective!
What is the weirdest or most interesting job you've ever had?
I'm the editor of OWL magazine, a discovery magazine for 9 - 13 year olds. I love it because I'm always learning new things.
