When did you start writing?
I have always loved to write, but this is my first published work other than a few articles in some trade publications.
What is your favorite book?
I love to read and will read almost anything. It would be hard to pinpoint one favorite book!
Do you have any pets?
Yes, two cats and a dog, all common varieties, but still well loved!
What is your favorite hobby?
I love to be creative, so I crochet, knit, quilt and do cross-stitch. I also live to travel and canoe.
What was your training or schooling?
I have a very eclectic college education --- art, early childhood education and one year in seminary!
How did you get involved with children's books?
My co-author Gwen Blakely-Kinsler asked for my assistance on Crocheting for Kids Can Press.
Do you have any tips for young creators?
Have fun, don't always worry about the rules and be creative!
What is the thing you like the most about creating kids' books?
I love inspiring kids to try new things.
How do you research your writing?
For this book, I pulled from my many (over 40) years of personal experience.
Where do you get your ideas?
Hard to tell, I always have a head full of ideas swimming around, waiting to surface.
What's your greatest childhood memory?
Traveling across the United States during the summer with my family of six in a 12-foot trailer! We saw a lot of the country and I will never forget the vastness of the land.
When you were little what did you want to be when you grew up?
An ice skater or a teacher
What is the weirdest or most interesting job you've ever had?
For one very short summer I was the dog washer for a dog groomer. It was definitely not my favorite job.
