I still live in Toronto.

I have always loved to write and I have enjoyed the opportunities to create stories or reflect on my experiences since I was in grade one. However, I started writing for a more public audience in a newsletter while in high school. Later, I wrote for a historical society and then, unlike most writers, I was invited to write a book. This invitation led to the creation and publication of my first book in 1993.

I have three children so there is always an adventure to be taken care of in relation to them. I have an interest in history that I express through my involvement with a historical organization. I hope to write more books.

This is such a hard question because there are so many wonderful books to read. It also depends on the stage of your life and how a book meets a need, expresses an unexpressed thought, touches you or provides you with a sense of amazement and awe at the knowledge you have just uncovered.

I used to have a dog; now I have kids.

I have an Honors Bachelor of Arts, a Master of Social Work and a Bachelor of Education degree.

I was very lucky to be invited to write my first book.

Yes. If you feel strongly about something, then act on that. It might be something that you will want to write about!

I like to feel that someone whom I have never met, and whom I may never meet, will have the chance to learn something new about themselves and about our society through reading my books.

I usually have an idea first. Then I check the library and the Internet to see what resources I can find. Sometimes I have to interview people or visit historical sites. I make lots of notes. I ask myself lots of questions and I try to put myself in the role of the person who might read my book to try to anticipate what they need to know and if I have provided the answers to the unasked questions.

I get my ideas from my children, from the newspaper, from other books, from people and from my own experiences.

My parents provided me with many fantastic memories through visits with family and friends and through travel.
