Naseem comes to us from the Canadian Children’s Book Centre where she was their librarian. Her favorite Kids Can Press book is Stormy Night. A First in Canadian Publishing — Pieces of Me Wins the Governor General’s Literary Award for Translation
Kids Can Press is proud to announce that Susan Ouriou’s translation of the children’s book Pieces of Me has won the 2009 Governor General’s Literary Award for Translation (French to English). This represents the first time a children’s book has been awarded this honor in the Translation category. This was Susan’s third nomination in the Translation category. Originally published in French as La liberté? Connais pas... by Charlotte Gingras, the original publication won the Governor General’s Award for Children’s Literature — Text in 1999. Susan Ouriou received her award from Governor General Michaëlle Jean on Thursday, November 26 at a presentation ceremony at Rideau Hall in Ottawa.

In addition to garnering this award, Kids Can Press illustrator Irene Luxbacher was shortlisted for a Governor General’s Award in the Children’s Literature — Illustration category for the book The Imaginary Garden.
FEATURED REVIEWS
“In New York City, streets are 85% of the public space — so they play a big role in the look and feel of the city. Watch This Space is a great resource for both teens and adults because it looks at and asks hard questions about what it truly means for something to be public space, and why it’s increasingly important to value our public places — whether they are streets, parks or civic buildings.”
Janette Sadik-Khan, Commissioner of the New York City Department of Transportation on Watch This Space
“Just the right mix of silly and sweet, combined with crisp illustrations and a purposefully limited color palette, make this a terrific read for children and their parents.”
      — School Library Journal review of Binky the Space Cat
“In all it’s a wonderfully integrated package about friendship, competition and the celebration of difference.”
      — Kirkus starred review of The Legend of Ninja Cowboy Bear
“Oldland’s rustic-style digital artwork looks like a hip flannel pajama print ... and his pictures play sly comic foil to the earnest text.”
      — Publisher’s Weekly review of Big Bear Hug
MY FAVE KCP BOOK
My Favorite KCP book is If the World Were a Village
“From the moment I opened If the World Were a Village, I was won over by its simple concept of describing the world in terms children could understand and give it to every teacher who comes to the library. This beautiful book brings the world and its issues closer to children and fosters understanding and compassion. I love it!”
